Pictured below are several in progress shots of constructing the best. As the Assistant Tailor, I had to ensure that the performer was wearing a piece that would hold up for many runs during the show, but also was historically accurate and true to the design. Using the pattern created by Jordan Draper, I completely constructed the vest on my own.
Designer, Asa Benally, wanted to create a train that flowed from the performer's dress that looked natural and organic. Therefore, in the construction of this piece, my job was to create the train out of red burlap, maroon chiffon, and red tulle. I laid all of the individual ribbons out across a work table onto the palest tulle I could find. Then after a lot of careful pinning I used a free motion needle to uphold the natural feel of the garment, but to ensure it's security. It created a gorgeous and voluminous train. Once crafted, three they were all attached to both the dress and each other.
