Designed all properties for production and built over 120 different props to be used on stage and in the rehearsal hall.
For this production 25 plates and 1 breaking plate needed to be ready for each show!
They were roller painted with a treatment of minwax, white paint, water. Followed by coats of frosted glass effect, matte finish, and black Plasti-Dip.
In addition to the plates themselves, Props Carpenter, Paige Wisenski and myself built custom frames for the plates to sit on that were historically accurate. To build these we used 1" x 2" lumber and a pinner.
The first thing that had to be done was the primary sketches, much of the design got changed, but these were the preliminary ideas for what would find it's way on stage.
The Hearing Aid pictured above was collaged together using a Comm-Headset from the 70’s removing the cabling and attaching it to the microphone via soldering. To ensure no wire were sticking out we used a heat gun and a plastic cover to protect the cabling and the performer.
The sash was created without a pattern. All materials were cut on a bias and then sewn together based off where the trim would sit. Finally, after I attached trim, I handpainted the letters on with no stencil.
